We, the members of the NDC in Finland have noted with concern the unwarranted and incessant verbal attacks on our leader and former president of the republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama by Otiko Djaba (minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection). It may be recalled that, in the run up to the 2016 elections, Otiko Djaba stood on a political platform and used vituperative language against H.E. John Dramani Mahama without any provocation.
However, when she, Otiko Djaba appeared before the vetting committee, an opportunity was given to her to retract and if possible apologies her choice of words made about the former president being “wicked and one with the devil’s heart” by some members of the committee but she was adamant and sought to show gross disrespect towards the former president. As if that was not enough, a day after the swearing in, Otiko on Dwa so nsem: a morning show programme on Adom TV, repeated the same unprintable words and reaffirmed her position not to retract and apologize to the former president.
She was further given an opportunity to refrain from using abusive words on the former president, yet she reintegrated her disrespectful nature by saying “former President John Mahama to rather apologize to the people of the three northern regions for his failure to implement the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) successfully”. A gesture we find very absurd emanating from a minister.
First and foremost, we wish to condemn such rudely attitude which we believe was intended to cast shame on the former number one gentleman of the land. We think it was unfortunate for someone like Otiko to show gross disrespect towards President John Dramani Mahama especially when she commands a great deal of authority as the minister in charge of gender, and social protection who is supposed to be the vanguard and advocate for strong moral values among the citizenry.
Having said that, we wish to state that, we take strong exceptions to the use of “wicked and evil” on our leader whom we so much revere and we want to caution her to desist from further attacking H.E. John Dramani Mahama. If it is her wish to use the name of the former president in gaining fame, she is on the wrong path then. Failure to do so will be dealt with accordingly.
